We Are the Local Church
The word 'church' is taken from the Greek word "ekklesia" which means "that which is called out" or "the called out ones". Those who are born again make up His body.
The church is the coming together of believers for fellowship, edification, comfort and training. The 'place' where God's own children rally together for fellowship becoming a refreshing refuge for hurting people.
A place where all are loved, forgiven, accepted, and where the Lord is exalted as King through worship and praise. The local church is not a building, a name, a piece of equipment or money, even though it would be hard to organize without all this.
What is a Church?
YOU and ME ... members in particular.
- To Teach: According to Ephesians 4:12, we are to equip the 'Saints' for the work of the ministry for the edification of the body of Christ to be the overcoming, victorious children of God, walking by faith, and living in the blessings of the Lord.
- To Reach The Lost: We want to tell people the good news about Jesus Christ. That who-so-ever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved. ---Romans 10:13
- To Train Others: We must train others to take our place. 'And the things that thou has heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also'. ---2 Timothy 2:2
In September 1988, thirteen people came together in a private home. This small group had a hunger and desire for the teaching of God's Word in it's fullness. The small town of Coldspring (pop. 917) had no full gospel fellowship, thus was born, Victory Gospel Church.
Among the founding body was Caroline Aycock who later become pastor of the church. From that first meeting, a building was located, rented and the preaching and teaching of God's Word began.
In May 1990, Caroline Aycock answered God's call to be pastor of Victory Gospel Church. A permanent location was needed so prayer for the place of God's choice was made until His direction was given to the spot we now occupy. The three acres on FM 222 was found and purchased in December 1992. The work on the first building was begun in July 1993 and in July 1995 the building was completed. Later an additional building was constructed for the ministries serving the Food Pantry, Kitchen and Children's Church. An additional 1.5 acres next to the church was acquired in May 2000. In December 2002, 19.36 acres was purchased of the five pieces needed for God's vision. At just the right time (God's time) April 2009 we acquired the last piece of property. The 1.25 acres on the corner now belong to Victory Gospel Church.
God has given Victory Gospel Church the vision and the responsibility of preaching and teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ to this rural community.
